Lance Loethen grew up in Quincy, Illinois, graduated from the University of Kansas with a B.S. in Economics, and then worked for GE Capital as an underwriter and financial analyst before discovering a passion for community and economic development that led him to an M.A. in Urban and Regional Planning from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Following graduate school, Lance spent 12 years as a Research Associate for Reinvestment Fund, acquiring deep knowledge of geospatial research methods for community and economic development, with particular attention towards the work of CDFIs serving low-wealth people and places.
Lance then served five years as Vice President of Research for Opportunity Finance Network (OFN), managing research on several hundred OFN member CDFIs and the larger CDFI industry. He launched Tract Advisors in 2020, building upon 20 years of experience researching, evaluating, and advising programs supporting disinvested people and places throughout the United States.
